New Position. A busy Atlanta family is seeking an extra set of hands to assist in keeping their home and day-to-day routines flowing. Both parents work full-time and find that some of the smaller household tasks are easy to fall through the cracks and often overlooked. The family has two children and two cats, so someone who is comfortable working around school-age children and pets is important. The family employs a part-time nanny, so childcare is not a responsibility. They also have a cleaning service once a week for the heavier, more detailed housekeeping. This role is helping with everything in between and taking care of the everyday things that keep a household organized.
Responsibilities will include keeping the home clean and organized between cleaning-service visits and assisting with family laundry, including washing, folding, putting away, and keeping linens organized. The Family Assistant duties will require clean out and organize the refrigerator and pantry as needed, discard expired food, sort through outgrown or seasonal clothing, prepare items for storage or donation, and drop off at donation centers. They will also assist with organization projects throughout the home, including closets, storage areas, seasonal items, and household supplies. Responsibilities will also include receiving scheduled service providers, repair technicians, or handymen and let them onto the property when the family is unavailable.
The position will also include handling store and online returns, picking up curbside and other pre-ordered items, receiving and sorting packages, grocery shopping, prescription pickups, dry cleaning, and other miscellaneous household errands. Larger bedding items, such as duvets and comforters, may occasionally need to be taken to the dry cleaner weekly. The family would also appreciate someone who naturally keeps an eye on household supplies, notices when something is running low, and sees areas that need attention without having to be given a list every day.
Basic care of the family’s two cats will also be part of the position, including feeding them and cleaning the litter box. One cat is allowed outdoors, while the other is strictly an indoor cat, so the Family Assistant will need to be mindful when letting the outdoor cat in and out. Another helpful part of the role will be getting dinner started before the family gets home. This does not need to be elaborate and may simply include washing and chopping vegetables, prepping ingredients, or getting everything ready for the parents to finish dinner.
The family is looking for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and good at seeing what needs to be done without having to be given a list every day. Candidates should have at least three years of recent experience working in a similar role for a private family, along with recent and verifiable professional references. Excellent written and spoken English is required, as well as reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. Candidates must also be able to pass a background check and motor vehicle record check. Since the family has cats, applicants should be comfortable around pets and willing to assist with basic pet care as needed.
