Interviewing Tips for a Private Home Position

Interviewing Tips for a Private Home Position

In the coming months I will share interviewing tips for candidates looking to work in a private home. From your resume and clothing, to questions to ask and how to close the interview. I am direct, to the point and will get you prepared. The rest is up to you!
Have you been on several interviews but yet to be hired? Are you a professional household domestic worker in the Atlanta area and have been unemployed for six months? Something is wrong and it’s not because the market is soft. Atlanta is ranked third in the nation for being home to the most Fortune 500 Companies. Just in the last 12 months Porsche, Mercedes Benz and Google Fiber have headquartered large facilities in the Atlanta area. This means company executives are relocating, buying new homes, hiring professional staff to maintain and manage their homes and care for their children. The Atlanta area has many job opportunities within private homes.

After spending two and a half decades in the household staffing business, I have learned a thing or two about interviewing. While conducting weekly interviews with domestic staff, I came to realize the majority of candidates are clueless about how to conduct themselves in a successful interview. The reason for their lack of knowledge…there is little information out there for domestic workers, only tips for corporate interviewing. Applying for a position in a private home entails a different process than in the corporate world. I’d like to share the knowledge I arm all of my candidates with before going out to meet a potential employer. Beware, I do have a tendency to go off topic occasionally; just roll with it.
